Creating miles of smiles

Professional Teeth Cleaning

Even if you brush and floss your teeth faithfully, food and bacteria can be trapped between your teeth and below the gum line, which your toothbrush cannot clean. When these deposits remain on the tooth surfaces or below the gum line, they provide ideal conditions for bacteria to grow and multiply, leading to inflammation and infection of the gums.

Professional cleaning with an experienced dental hygienist can help you avoid future dental and gum problems. Our dental hygienist removes plaque and calculus that can accumulate between teeth and under the gum line. During the cleaning process, we evaluate your gums, teeth, and bones. If early gum disease is detected, it can be immediately taken care of, preventing gum disease progression and even tooth loss.

Teeth Whitening

Are you preparing for an upcoming event or just want to elevate your smile? Teeth whitening is a simple way to brighten your smile and improve your appearance. We offer take-home whitening kits that you can safely use in the comforts of your home to achieve a brighter smile in two weeks. Our dentists will create a custom tray for you, fill them with whitening gel, and wear them at night for a few hours.

Dental Sealants

Did you know that dental sealants are an effective way to protect children's teeth from decay? The chewing surfaces of back teeth have deep, tiny grooves that trap bacteria and food particles. With dental sealants, we place fillings to smooth out these surfaces, making them resistant to decay. A sealed tooth is far less likely to develop a cavity, require more expensive dental treatment later on, or, most importantly, cause your child pain.

Dental Bonding

Do you have chipped or cracked teeth? Tooth bonding is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to repair damaged, misshapen, or fractured teeth. It can be accomplished in a single visit to our office.

Also called Composite Bonding, it is an affordable cosmetic procedure compared to veneers without breaking the bank. Your Okemos Family Dentist will be able to match your natural tooth color and provide you with a natural-looking restoration.

Composite Fillings

Composite fillings are tooth-colored restorations to repair tooth decay and make your teeth strong again. When tooth decay is detected and repaired early, it prevents tooth decay from spreading further into your tooth and reaching the nerve part, which can cause you pain.

And with advancements in dentistry, composite fillings can give you a more natural appearance overall and withstand the forces in your mouth when you bite and chew over a long period.

Dental Crowns & Bridges

Dental Crown is a "cap" placed over a badly broken tooth to restore a damaged tooth to its natural shape. It also reinforces strength, allowing them to function normally again. The procedure usually takes weeks to bond your dental crown. Fortunately, our in-house CEREC scanner and milling equipment can prepare your tooth and bond your dental crown in a single visit, so you don't need to wait weeks to fix your tooth.

A dental Bridge is a treatment to replace a missing tooth. This is an alternative treatment to Dental Implants. It consists of a false tooth being held in place by dental crowns cemented to either side of the gap.

Dental Implants

A dental Implant is a permanent solution to replacing a lost tooth. A titanium screw is placed in your jawbone and topped with a dental crown that mimics your natural teeth' appearance, thus providing a natural-looking restoration. With dental implants, you no longer have to worry about dentures popping out, and you can start to enjoy your life again. Dental implants help you to restore your self-esteem and enjoy eating your favorite foods again!

Porcelain Veneers

Are your teeth gappy, misshapen, discolored, chipped, or fractured? Porcelain veneers are bonded to your teeth to fix these dental concerns, which can create a natural-looking, beautiful smile! They mimic your natural teeth' color and appearance, making them a fantastic treatment option that blends in with your natural teeth.

A very thin layer of the tooth needs to be removed to fit veneers and make it look as lifelike as possible. Although it requires removing a thin layer of teeth, we will remove as minimal as possible for tooth preservation.

Removable Dentures

In cases wherein a dental implant is not feasible, we can help you restore lost teeth with removable dentures and make you smile again. Your denture will be made of material that mimics the look of teeth and gums, giving you a natural-looking smile. Your denture will be made to fit snugly on your gums, and you will be able to remove it for cleaning.

There are several types of dentures, such as immediate, partial, and full dentures. Your Okemos Family Dentistry dentists will be happy to discuss what type of denture best suits your case.

Implant-Retained Dentures

If you have lost teeth and feel uncomfortable with removable dentures, an implant-supported denture might be the perfect solution for you. The advantage of implant-supported dentures is stability. It stops your denture from moving, making you feel more confident talking and eating.

With implant-supported dentures, you'll be able to bite, chew, and speak as you would normally. In addition to its natural-looking, it also prevents bone loss since the implant screw replaces your tooth root and stimulates bone growth.

Oral Cancer Screening

Here at Okemos Family Dentistry, we offer routine oral cancer screening, which involves thoroughly examining your mouth and neck area. If any abnormalities are noted, a small tissue sample can be retrieved for further testing in a laboratory.

Periodontal Disease Therapy

Periodontal therapy includes both surgical and non-surgical techniques to restore health to the tissues that support the teeth (gums and bone) and prevent tooth loss, such as Scaling and Root Planing (SRP), Gum Grafting, and Periodontal Surgery. Scaling and Root Planing involves removing plaque beneath the gums. Gum Grafting replaces areas of lost gum tissue so that tooth roots are adequately protected. And Periodontal Surgery refers to any reshaping procedure that creates a more pleasing appearance of the gum tissues.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a serious disorder that may affect your ability to sleep and breathe. Okemos Family Dentistry offers comfortable, state-of-the-art appliances to treat sleep apnea by holding your jaw in place and promoting airflow.

Custom-made oral appliances are fitted to your mouth and will be worn depending on each case. These orthodontic appliances are more comfortable than CPAP machines and work by realigning your jaw and tongue to open your airway.

TMJ/TMD Treatment

If your teeth don’t fit together properly, you could have malocclusion or a ‘bad bite’, which can cause problems with your teeth, gums, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and the muscles in your face. If you experience ongoing pain in the area near your ear, your jaw, or the muscles on the side of your face, possibly accompanied by a clicking or popping sound or restricted jaw movement, you may be suffering from TMD — an abbreviation for Temporomandibular disorders.

Treating TMD may require a combination of treatments to correct bite problems and help you relieve pain, such as a custom night guard, physical therapy, or botox.

Retainers

Don't let your orthodontic investment go to waste. Wearing retainers can ensure that your teeth continue to look great and aligned following orthodontic treatment.

There are many different types and designs of retainers. Your Okemos Family Dentistry dentist will discuss options that cater to your individual needs, such as removable retainers and clear aligners.
